ARGENTINA: Kirchner courts opposition

President Néstor Kirchner has made his second major bid to attract cross-party support for his government. The initial effort to create what he called a 'transverse alliance' faded last year, but, aware that support within his own Partido Justicialista (PJ, or Peronist party) is by no means guaranteed, Kirchner has now sought the co-operation of the opposition Unión Cí­vica Radical (UCR).
